HINDU SCHOOL

HINDU SCHOOL will provide an opportunity for our children to have exposure to Hindu tradition, scriptures, shlokas and bhajans using a simple and interesting approach. This is a class started by moms who want to give their own kids as well as other interested children an opportunity to learn about our culture and meet new friends. We will celebrate festivals like Ramanavami, Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali etc by teaching the children the significance of these events and encouraging participation.

AGE OF CHILD

We intend to focus our efforts towards children from age 3 to 14 year old. Currently have three classes for children ages 3-7, one for children 7-11 ages and ages 12 and above. As we progress we might consider more classes with different age groups for added learning. Since teaching and learning requires a commitment of time, consistency in attendance is important. We urge parents to drop off their children promptly and return to pick up the kids after class. Parents who are interested in bringing their younger children (3 and below) are welcome to do so but we ask them to stay along with the child during class to avoid distraction.

HOURS / DAYS

Our class will meet on alternate Sunday of the month. Parents will get an email reminder from the teacher before each class. If for some reason the class is cancelled, parents will be informed the previous day. The class will start promptly at 10:30 and go on till 11:30 am.

SHLOKA & BHAJAN

Our class will be oriented towards giving the children a good knowledge of the various Shlokas and Bhajans. New items will be introduced on a regular basis and continuously reviewed as they gain experience. All the shlokas and bhajans we have chosen and inserted in the handbook are simple and serve as a stepping stone for more advanced learning. We encourage parents to try and incorporate some of these prayers as part of their daily schedule as well. As we add more prayers to the schedule, a printout will be added to the file.

KIDS TIME

A culture keeps its history, values, traditions and heroes alive through stories. We hope to encourage learning and to impart knowledge of Ramayana, Mahabharat and other scriptures through storytelling, interesting games and illustrations. The games will serve to review the stories and to familiarize the children with the names and places mentioned in the stories. Taking part in these activities also encourages participation in class and helps them to overcome shyness and develop a sense of cooperation, competition and friendliness. Younger children will be encouraged to learn from their older peers and can be engaged with simple activities.

BEHAVIOR

Our goal is to relate to your child in a way that will encourage learning, self-control and responsibility for their actions. Our classes will be conducted in an orderly manner and certain routines and rules will be followed. Children will be encouraged to be seated at all times and maintain silence during class. We will use positive verbal reinforcement to correct any problem behaviors. Under no circumstances will the child be made to feel upset or humiliated in front of his/her peers.

ANNUAL MEET

Once a year we also hope to have childrens presentation where they can exhibit their talents to friends and family. This will provide a great opportunity for the children to get up on stage and will encourage participation.
